5 Highest Costly Produced Films of All Time

You may not know how much money is circulating in the Hollywood film industry. From the millions of dollars in actors' salaries and the salaries of thousands of crew members to post-production and marketing, budgets for some films certainly make you realize how small we, as audiences, are.

A film with a high budget does not necessarily mean that it will make a satisfactory profit. Without further ado, here are the most expensive films ever made.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides - 422 Million Dollars

The most expensive film ever made was Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. It is the only film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to have a budget exceeding 400 million dollars.

The reason why this film is so expensive is because of the use of multiple shooting locations, the use of 3D cameras similar to those used in Avatar, and for the visual effects done by ten different companies.

2. Avengers: Age of Ultron - 386 Million Dollars

Avengers: Age of Ultron is the second most expensive film ever made. This film has a production cost of 386 million dollars or around Rp. 5.7 trillion. This is because the shooting locations are spread all over the world and use a lot of special effects which of course requires high costs.

But like all MCU films, Avengers: Age of Ultron made a lot of profit and became the fourth highest-grossing film of 2015.

3. Avengers: Endgame - 350 Million Dollars

Avengers: Endgame was the most anticipated film of 2019, the closing film of the Infinity Saga storyline. So, it's only natural that this one film was made at a fantastic cost. Avengers: Endgame cost 350 million dollars to produce.

Avengers: Endgame was the highest-grossing film of all time from July 2019 to March 2021.

4. Avengers: Infinity War - 316 Million Dollars

Using a budget of 316 million dollars, or around Rp. 4.7 trillion, Avengers: Infinity War became the first superhero film to earn more than 2 billion dollars or almost breaking the 30 trillion rupiah mark.

Although many consider superhero films as an exaggerated genre and believe that many will be bored with this one genre of film, the numbers say otherwise. Whether you're a fan of the MCU or not, you can't deny that Avengers: Infinity War had a significant impact on cinema history.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - 300 Million Dollars

The film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End showed the world that investing $300 million into a film can yield extraordinary results. The third film in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise became the highest-grossing film of 2007, grossing over $960 million.

This film tells the story of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) who fights for his ship while accepting his destiny and the romance story of Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and Will (Orlando Bloom).

In your opinion, is there a movie in the future that will break the record for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides?
