5 Things from Avatars to Remember Before Watching The Way of Water

Avatar: The Way of Water officially aired 13 years after the broadcast of Avatar (2009) which recorded a phenomenal record. Avatar 2 continues the story of the Na'vi nation after Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) becomes part of them.

The Way of Water also continues the conflict between the Na'vi and the sky people, aka humans, who want to rule over Pandora. This makes Avatar: The Way of Water closely related to the story of the first film.

A number of important facts about Avatar (2009) need to be kept in mind in order to better understand the storyline of Avatar: The Way of Water which takes place several years after the events of the first film.

Here are five things to remember from Avatar (2009) before watching Avatar: The Way of Water

1. Pandora, Human Target Planet

Pandora is a planet inhabited by the Na'vi people, as well as the main universe of the Avatar saga. This planet bears a resemblance to Earth and contains a wealth of natural resources.

Earth's state of running out of resources has prompted humanity to search for other planets, eventually finding Pandora.

An organization called the Resources Development Administration (RDA) was then sent to Pandora to control the planet as well as seize their resources.

2. Na'vi Nation, Original Inhabitants of Pandora

The Na'vi are human-like creatures who live on Pandora. Physically, the Na'vi nation has an average height of about 3 meters and blue skin.

The Na'vi also have a number of clans living in various regions. One of them is the Omaticaya, a Na'vi clan who lives in the forest and is also the center of the first Avatar story.

In this clan, Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) appears as the main character involved in the conflict against humans with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington).

3. Jake Sully's Early Journey

Initially, mankind wanted to learn about the life of the Na'vi nation by creating the Avatar program led by a scientist named Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver).

In that program, they created a hybrid creature resembling a Na'vi named Avatar. Paraplegic ex-soldier named Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) is appointed to the project as one of the Avatars, as is Grace as head researcher.

The mission actually sparked Grace and Jake Sully's love for the Na'vi and Pandora. For Jake Sully, this mission also became a new chapter in his life, especially after he met Neytiri.

4. War Against Humanity

However, the RDA insists on controlling Pandora and so brutally attacks the Na'vi once it gets the information it needs.

Jake Sully and Grace and several other scientists finally decided to side with the Na'vi and fight against human colonization.

The Pandora colonization mission is led by a marine named Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), who is also Jake Sully's boss. Since then, Quaritch has also considered Jake a traitor and intends to kill him.
