Get to know the Forever Crystal, Marvel's Most Advanced Time Travel Tool

Currently, time travel is a premise that is often brought up in the Marvel Universe. Especially since Marvel Studios introduced the concept at the end of the Infinity Saga and then made it one of the main themes in the currently ongoing Multiverse Saga. In the comics themselves, there are actually lots of tools or artifacts that are often used to support the story of time travel. However, none of them are as powerful as the Forever Crystal, because it is said that this artifact can be used to change Marvel's past and future as well. How could that be? Let's just talk about it.

Origin Forever Crystal at Marvel Comics

First appearing in the comic Avengers: Forever #3 (1998), the Forever Crystal is an artifact in the Marvel universe created by Immortus, a variant of the future Kang who devoted himself to the Time Keepers. The main purpose of Immortus using this tool is to change the destiny of mankind while preventing their ambitions to make conquests beyond Earth. The reason Immortus can do such extraordinary things is because the Forever Crystal allows him to change the past as well as influence the future without creating branches in the timeline.

In other words, whoever has the Forever Crystal in the Marvel Universe, he can use it to change the past and the future according to his will. Including erasing all life in the universe by preventing everything from happening from the very beginning of creation. In fact, the Time Keepers ordered such horrible things to Immortus directly. However, not wanting all his efforts to manipulate time to go to waste, Immortus was forced to refuse his orders, which made the Time Keepers kill him.

It was at this point that the Avengers, who were at the location, immediately secured the Forever Crystal before it was snatched by the Time Keepers. In the final battle that determined the fate of the universe, the Time Keepers even went so far as to summon an evil variant of the Avengers to fight the superheroes. Everything could only end after Captain America deliberately destroyed the Forever Crystal so that this sophisticated artifact would never fall into the wrong hands again. Since then, there has been no more tool that can be used to do time travel without creating timeline branches in the Marvel Universe.

Kang the Conqueror's Ultimate Artifact

Even though the original Forever Crystal was destroyed, it still hasn't stopped its threat to the Marvel multiverse. In fact, it turns out that this tool was also used by Kang the Conqueror in the LEGO Marvel's Avengers video game (2016). If previously Immortus used it to prevent human conquest of other planets, the Forever Crystal became even more dangerous when it fell into the hands of Kang, who is known to be even more sinister and more ambitious than his old version.

With the Forever Crystal, Kang claims that he will never be defeated by anyone, including the Avengers. Because when that happens, he can immediately use the Forever Crystal to go back in time and reverse his defeat, where it all takes place in the same universe. Luckily, Ravonna Renslayer managed to seize the Forever Crystal before her evil lover could carry out the plan. After seeing the struggles of the superheroes, Ravonna finally decides to turn Kang into a baby so he can grow into a better person.

Potentially Appears in Ant-Man 3

Based on all the Marvel stories above, it's quite clear that Forever Crystal has a very close relationship with Kang the Conqueror, both the younger and older versions. This means that the same thing could happen in the MCU, where the evil version of Kang might have the same artifacts to conquer the timeline and even the multiverse. Considering that Kang from Jonathan Majors has been confirmed to appear in the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania, perhaps the live action version of Forever Crystal will also be introduced in the film, which will be released on February 17.
