The 5 Weirdest Godzilla Movies That Were Canceled

In its history, Godzilla is one of the film franchises that is not easy to realize. First released in the 50s, a classic Godzilla film from studio Toho usually requires very thorough preparation, starting from the concept of the story to the set of miniatures and monster costumes that will be used. Things like this often result in a Godzilla film being ultimately canceled from production, even though the script has been completed. Like the 5 films that we will discuss this time, apart from failing to air, all of them have strange and astonishing stories!

Bride of Godzilla

Success with its first two films which were released consecutively in 1954 and 1955, Toho, who was still a home studio at that time, had intended to present a partner for Godzilla in the next film. This idea first appeared in 1956 through the Bride of Godzilla script written by Hideo Ungami. Surprisingly, the couple prepared by the studio turns out to be a giant female robot created by a scientist who misses his late daughter. Fortunately, at that time, Toho was aware of this and canceled the script for the Bride of Godzilla film, which was quite vulgar. Even so, at least with this we know that from the start Godzilla was a male.

Godzilla vs Ghost Godzilla

It has become a habit that most of the Godzilla films always present another kaiju as an opponent or friend for the King of Monsters. The concept that is still used today turned out to have been slightly 'turned' by Toho in 1995. Where they almost made a film about Godzilla fighting the spirits of his ancestors. The movie called Godzilla vs. Ghost Godzilla was meant to be the last film in the Heisei era, before finally being canceled and replaced with Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995) based on the decision of director Takao Okawara who felt that there were too many films about Godzilla fighting his own kind.

Godzilla vs Batman

On paper, the strange concept of Godzilla vs Batman might be really cool if it actually materialized. The idea for the film itself began when Toho and Greenway Productions collaborated in 1966. Even though it was ultimately cancelled, the script for the Godzilla vs Batman film was revealed to the public. Where the plot begins with Batman seeing footage of the fight between Godzilla and King Kong. When the two actually met, Batman along with Robin and Batgirl immediately used their vehicle to face the King of Monsters. It's a shame that this epic-sounding story didn't get produced.

Godzilla vs Frankenstein

In the early 60s, Toho had planned to make an odd crossover film between Godzilla vs Frankenstein which was meant to air in 1964. The story of the film itself begins with a child like Frankenstein who mutates and then grows up. Knowing that the humanoid monster had eaten a lot of people, the Japanese soldiers deliberately lured Godzilla into fighting Frankenstein. Although in the end the film's story was not realized, Toho still used the script for the film Frankenstein vs Baragon (1965).

Godzilla vs Mechani-Kong

Just like other canceled films, actually the concept of Godzilla vs Menchani-Kong can be said to be quite promising. Especially in 1962, the film King Kong vs Godzilla had managed to become one of the most successful films at that time. Unfortunately, for some reason, Toho ended up canceling the epic battle between Godzilla and the robot version of Kong. The film itself was going to tell a story about Japanese soldiers who created the Kong robot as well as put a number of troops and scientists into Godzilla's body. With this plot, we can actually see Godzilla's internal organs, which at the same time are being attacked by Mechani-Kong. Too bad, Geeks.

Those are 5 canceled Godzilla films which, even though they are strange, are actually quite promising to be realized. On the other hand, it's fortunate that these five films didn't get released, because if they were released, Godzilla's image might not be what it is today. Where we will think of Godzilla as a terrible and strange kaiju, who likes to fight with humanoid monsters and falls in love with a giant female robot. What do you think, Geeks? If given a choice, which of these canceled films would you most like to watch?

The following are films currently showing online in Cinemas
