War Machine Becomes Skrull Incarnate in Secret Invasion

 Going into early 2023, Marvel is preparing a number of shows that will be part of the early stages of Phase 5 of the MCU. One of them is the Secret Invasion series which is predicted to be aired at the beginning of this year. The series, which takes its title from the comic book story, will tell the story of an invasion of the evil Skrull aliens who are famous for being able to disguise themselves as other Marvel characters. And in the MCU itself, the strongest candidate who has the potential to emerge as a Skrull incarnation in Secret Invasion is James Rhodey aka War Machine. What are the instructions and theories like? Skrull Clues As War Machine in Secret Invasion

In the MCU, the Skrull aliens have actually been introduced in the film Captain Marvel (2019), where their shape-shifting abilities are known to be very difficult for even the superhero's eyes to notice. So far two groups of Skrull have been introduced to the MCU. The first is the group of Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) who decide to become allies of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the ending of Captain Marvel. Meanwhile, the second group is the evil Skrull who want to rule the Earth, where their story will be further explored in the upcoming Secret Invasion series.

For those who don't know, in Marvel Comics itself the events of Secret Invasion (2007-2008) tell about a long-term invasion of Earth that was very neatly conceived and executed by alien Skrulls. One of the most diabolical attempts they have ever made to achieve their goal is to secretly take the place of many superheroes in the Marvel Universe. Although not completely the same, it seems that this premise will indeed be used in the upcoming Secret Invasion series, which is certain to return to the MCU's War Machine character from actor Don Cheadle.

Speculation about War Machine's return as a Skrull incarnation in Secret Invasion stems from Cheadle's own statement. While he previously spoke to Phase Zero that his character appearing in Secret Invasion "is in a different place [with the Armor Wars solo run]." Although he admitted that he could not explain in detail, but Cheadle promised that "everything will be a very surprising thing for a lot of people." What other surprise could satisfy so many people, if not his appearance as a Skrull incarnate?


When Will the Skrulls Take Over the War Machine Role?

If it's true that War Machine will appear as a Skrull in disguise in the Secret Invasion series, now the question is since when has Rhodey taken over by this alien in disguise? One possibility is that Rhodey's role as War Machine may have just been taken over after the events of Endgame. In this way, the Skrulls, who later disguised themselves as War Machine, could take advantage of their big names as superheroes as well as influential members of the military. Where this certainly allows him to cause chaos with the War Machine identity.

When the Skrull aliens launch this undercover mission, of course, they also have to catch the real War Machine first. So there's a possibility that in Secret Invasion, the real Rhodey might be locked up in a hidden Skrull prison. Meanwhile, his War Machine armor has been stolen and used by incarnate Skrulls to convince all parties that he is Rhodey. There is a possibility that Nick Fury will be his first victim, because he may never have thought that a character as loyal and powerful as Rhodey could be replaced by an alien Skrull.


Potential to Become a Villain in Secret Invasion

In the Secret Invasion series later, if War Machine does appear as a Skrull incarnation, of course he will not be on the good side who has allied with Nick Fury. Aside from the fact that such an act would only be done by an evil Skrull, his revelation as the villain in Secret Invasion's ending could be a much-needed twist to make the series even more memorable. Later the audience will think, if Rhodey can be replaced by a Skrull, that means other superheroes can also be replaced by them without us knowing it.

It is very likely that there will be more Skrull incarnations besides War Machine that will appear in the series. Director Leaves, Dune Prequel Filming Postponed
