8 Most Mysterious Plot Holes in the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is Marvel's live action universe which so far has dozens of films and even a number of other complementary shows, such as series, spin-offs, and specials on Disney+. Even so, until now it turns out that there are a number of questions or mysteries that are still unanswered, in which all of this actually leaves confusing plot holes for loyal fans. Starting from the Infinity Saga, to the ongoing Multiverse Saga, here are eight MCU plot holes that until now have been ignored by Marvel Studios.

Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's Trophy Room

Anyone who saw Thanos in action in the Avengers Infinity Wars movie must be aware of how extraordinary the power of the Infinity Gauntlet is. Interestingly, the first Thor film released years earlier had shown the Infinity Gauntlet complete with its Infinity Stones stored in the storage room of Asgard. The Thor Ragnarok film itself has indeed answered that the Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's trophy room is fake. However, what has become a plot hole so far is how did Odin find out the form of his Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity Stones before Infinity Wars took place in the MCU? If he knew from the start, why had he kept it a secret from Thor all along?

Why Thanos Gave Loki the Mind Stone

Until now, the plot hole when Thanos gave the Mind Stone to Loki in the first MCU crossover film, The Avengers, may still be ringing in our minds. What is a strong reason for Thanos to give one of the Infinity Stones he has been looking for to the God of Mischief? Even though the Chitauri troops he lent to Loki were actually enough to devastate New York and kill many innocent people. Giving the Infinity Stone to get the Tesseract aka Space Stone to a god who is known to be cunning, should not have been done by a big bad villain as brilliant as Thanos. So what's the point?

Hydra's fear of Doctor Strange

When Captain America: The Winter Soldier shows the adventures of Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Sam Wilson to dismantle the Hydra organization, we are presented with a quite unique MCU plot hole. Where the results of computer database calculations belonging to Hydra's top scientist, namely Arnim Zola, are used as the basis for identifying a number of superheroes who have the potential to threaten their organization, such as Bruce Banner, Tony Stark, and Stephen Strange. The funny thing is that at this point Strange was still working as a normal surgeon at all, not yet a wizard let alone the Sorcerer Supreme. Can Arnim Zola's computer predictions penetrate space and time? Who knows.

The Pym Particle Theft by Mitch Carson

If we recall the incident in the first Ant-Man film, when Scott first thwarted Daren Cross' plan to sell the Yellowjacket costume to Hydra, there was a Hydra agent named Mitch Carson who secretly stole Cross/Pym Particle and disappeared. However, after all these years, until now it has actually left a plot hole in the MCU, because Mitch still hasn't shown himself even though he has stolen important technology. With Hydra and SHIELD disbanded, what happened to him and the Cross/Pym Particle he stole? In fact in Marvel Comics, Mitch was told to be the evil version of Ant-Man, but sadly that never happened in the MCU.

Absence of Extremis Technology When Needed

First told in the film Iron Man 3, Extremis is an advanced genetic technology created by the villain Aldrich Killian that allows its users to heal wounds on their own even to the extent of growing body parts that have been severed or destroyed. When the film ends with the victory of Tony Stark and his girlfriend Peppet Potts, until now it has not been explained how the technology will continue. In fact, if only this technology was further developed by Tony for a good cause, it is not impossible that Extremists could be the answer to injuries or illnesses suffered by mankind all over the Earth.

Fickle Celestial Existence

In the MCU, there is a plot hole related to the existence of Celestials that confuses many fans, as well as maybe the characters that exist in the live action universe. Before being explored further in the film Eternals, Celestial has actually been mentioned several times in the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise, including in Vol. 2 which confirms that Peter Quill's father, namely Ego the Living Planet is the last Celestial in the universe. In fact, the film Eternals, which was released a few years later, actually revealed that Celestials like Arishem the Judge were still in good health.

Doctor Strange spell for Peter Parker

Do you still remember the memory erasing spell that Doctor Strange cast in the movie Spider-Man No Way Home? In the film, shortly after Strange failed to cast his spell and accidentally presented a new problem, he told Peter Parker that his forbidden magic had brought villains from other universes who were fated to die. Even though this applies to Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Electro, the fact is that Lizard and Sandman shouldn't be fated to die in their respective films. That's why Strange's statement left ambiguous plot holes for loyal MCU fans.

How Time Works in the Quantum Realm

Even though the film Quantummania has just explored the Quantum Realm, it is still unclear how time works in this mini-universe. For example, when Avengers: Endgame reveals that Ant-Man's five hours in the Quantum Realm is the same as five years in the real world, the effect is quite different from what Janet experienced. When Janet disappeared for 30 years since the incident that happened to her with Hank Pym in 1987, it turned out that she had also spent 30 years in the Quantum Realm, this is why the concept of Quantum Realm time became one of the big plot holes in the MCU.

Those are the eight biggest plot holes in the MCU that until now seem to have been forgotten by Marvel Studios. On the other hand, many fans are not too aware of or remember the details of the events in the MCU, so in the end it's as if nothing ever happened. Even so, this shouldn't make it disappear from history, and if we examine it more deeply, these various plot holes actually had a big impact. Hopefully one day all of this can be answered by future MCU shows, or at least there won't be any repeat premise errors.
