Vin Diesel Compares Fast Furious to The Lord of the Rings

The tenth Fast & Furious film entitled Fast X has just released the first trailer for the film which will be airing soon. Based on what was seen in the trailer, it was revealed that the Dom (Vin Diesel) racing family would later face an enemy from the past named Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Interestingly, at the same time as the Fast X trailer was released, Vin Diesel also revealed that bringing Fast & Furious this far was no less difficult than The Lord of the Rings.

Loyal fans of Hollywood films may already be familiar with the fantasy film franchise The Lord of the Rings, which was presented by director Peter Jackson in the 2000s. The fact is that this world, which is filled with many magical things, from elves, dwarves, orcs, to magic artifacts that have tremendous influence on their universe, is even bigger in the original novel created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Well, now Diesel has just compared this very complicated and massive mythology with the Fast & Furious franchise that he stars in.

In his interview with Variety, Vin Diesel was asked about the difficulties he has had to face so far as a Fast & Furious star. The actor, who has been involved with the franchise for more than two decades, explained that the off-screen aspect was the most difficult part of making Fast & Furious what it is today.

“You know what makes it even more difficult? The off-screen aspect, which is thinking about and growing [the Fast & Furious franchise]. There's a reason why Tolkie stopped writing, because it's so hard to defend a mythology. Maybe no one thought about it in that context, but it's not easy," said Diesel.

When a Variety reporter tried to conclude that Fast & Furious was an action movie version of The Lord of the Rings, Diesel responded "that's a good analogy. I wish it could come true. And that is absolutely true.” If Diesel doesn't explain it, maybe no one will realize that in fact Fast & Furious has its own mythological concept which is quite complicated and interconnected. Because of this, we feel that between one film and the other, there is quite an important attachment.

What Vin Diesel revealed about the Fast & Furious franchise is in line with the latest trailer for Fast X. Where it turns out that the film's villain named Dante Reyes is the son of drug lord Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida), the antagonist in the film Fast Five (2011). We'll see how exciting and expanding the Fast & Furious mythology will be in the Fast X film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2023.
