Director Leaves, Dune Prequel Filming Postponed

After the success of the film Dune which was released in 2021, HBO Max did not hesitate to work on a series titled Dune: The Sisterhood. The series is a prequel to Dune which will tell about the mysterious origins of the Bene Gesserit. Currently, the series is being developed. But there is bad news with Dune: The Sisterhood.

Deadline recently reported that director Johan Renck has left the production after he directed the first two episodes of this Dune prequel. In addition, the main star Shirley Henderson who will play Tula Harkonnen also left this project. As a result, production on Dune: The Sisterhood was postponed as the studio had to find replacements for Renck and Henderson.

Previously, the project was also abandoned by co-showrunner Diane Ademu- John, who stepped down before filming. Ademu-John left Alison Schapker as sole showrunner. And recently, HBO Max has also shared an official statement, as you can see below.

“As Dune: The Sisterhood has entered its previously scheduled hiatus, there have been several creative changes made to the production in an effort to best create the series and stay true to the source material. Johan Renck has completed work on the series and a new director will be appointed, by mutual agreement, Johan continues to pursue other projects. Additionally, Shirley Henderson will be leaving the series and will no longer be playing Tula Harkonnen."

According to reports circulating, Renck decided to leave because of disagreements with HBO Max. Meanwhile, the reasons that made Henderson leave are still unknown. Some say that the constantly changing filming schedule for Dune: The Sisterhood disrupted Henderson's existing schedule, so he inevitably left because he had other projects to complete.

When the series was developed, Denis Villeneuve was expected to direct several episodes of Dune: The Sisterhood, while Jon Spaihts would co-write the script. But both of them refused to work on this series. The delay in this series seems to have an impact on the release, which seems to be even longer than we expected. Let's just wait for the latest information geeks later.
