This is the Meaning of the Speed Force Color in The Flash

After going through many hurdles and controversies, The Flash is confirmed to still be showing in theaters worldwide on June 16. As the film that will mark the end of the DCEU, The Flash tells the story of the adventures of Barry Allen who tries to change history by going back in time. But in the process, Barry actually arrives in an alternative universe full of new problems. He then encounters a younger variant of Flash who appears to have the same power, but with a different color of Speed Force lightning. What does the difference in color actually mean? Let's talk.

Differences in the Color of Lightning in The Flash

As mentioned above, The Flash trailer has revealed that in the film there will be two variants of Flash, both played by Ezra Miller. Their difference lies precisely in the experience of the two, where the young version that exists in an alternate universe seems to still not be the Flash when it meets the main Barry Allen who is trying to change history. Young Barry is then shown going with the main version to meet Michael Keaton's Batman. It was at this point that he made his own superhero costume out of an old Batman costume dyed red.

As you can see in the image above, towards the end of the trailer, the two Flashes are shown showing off their speed when dealing with General Zod's troops, which outnumber them. Where the main Flash is seen emitting golden yellow lightning, while the young Flash has a bluish color. Apart from being deliberately differentiated so that the actions of the main Flash and young Flash are not confused, it is possible that the color of the Speed Force's lightning does have a special meaning that describes the greatness of each speedster, just like in DC Comics.

Speed Force Color Meaning in Comics

As we all know, in the comic itself Barry Allen alias Flash is not the only speedster that exists in the DC Universe. There are many incarnations or variants of Flash that have different speed levels, where interestingly we can see this from the color of Speed Force's lightning which refers to the 'blueshift' color spectrum. Red is the slowest frequency in blueshift electromagnetic waves, followed by yellow, blue, to white which is described as the fastest frequency.

In the DC Universe, the slowest speedster, like Wally West II, usually has red Lightning Speed Force, except for Reverse-Flash, whose super speed comes from the Negative Speed Force. Furthermore, a slightly faster speedster, generally has a yellow lightning color, such as Flash Barry Allen, Bart Allen, and Jay Garrick. Then there is also a future version of Barry's bluish lightning which is described as faster than his past version. Finally, the color of white lightning from Wally West, signifies that he is the fastest speedster in the DC Universe.

Reverse Concept in Live Action Version

The color spectrum concept in DC Comics is most likely used in the live action version as well. However, it seems that in the film The Flash itself, the lightning color spectrum used is the opposite of blueshift, namely 'redshift', considering that the main version of Flash is supposed to be faster than the younger version. Now the reason why he is faster is because in the film he is the only one who is told to have traveled through time and space until he arrived in an alternate universe. Meanwhile, the blue color of the young Flash is the same as Flash's first appearance in the Justice League movie, when he still didn't have much experience.

That's an explanation of the meaning of the color of the Lightning Speed Force in The Flash movie. On the other hand, the yellow lightning that is owned by the main Flash seems to have been deliberately presented so that he is more like in the comics. Despite the difference in speed they have, the color of the blue lightning doesn't mean that the young Flash is slow either. In fact, he is still a Barry Allen alias Flash who is famous for having super speed. At the latest the blue lightning, Flash might still be able to repeat time like in the Justice League movie. What do you think about the color of this lightning.
