6 Best Film Recommendations From a Pilot's Point of View

Not long ago, Hollywod cinema was blown away with one of the most awaited films about aviation pilots. Namely Top Gun: Maverick. A continuation of Top Gun which was released in the 80's, the film takes the point of view of a fighter pilot, which many ordinary people rarely know about the training and situations that the pilot faces.

Top Gun: Maverick is not the first film to focus on the profession of a pilot. How come there are other films with a similar theme. Below are 6 recommendations for the best films that take the point of view of a pilot. Listen, come on.

1. Top Gun

Top Gun, who doesn't know one of the best films from actor Tom Cruise on this one? This film is Cruise's legacy for Hollywood cinema. In the action scenes in the air, Tom Cruise does not use a stunt role and instead chooses to be a real pilot.

The Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is the best place for those who have the will and expertise in the field of aviation. When a fighter pilot, Maverick (Tom Cruise), enters the school, the situation there becomes chaotic. His reckless and arrogant attitude puts him at odds with other pilots, especially Iceman (Val Kilmer).

Not only does Maverick compete to be the best fighter pilot in Top Gun, he also fights for the attention of his flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis).

2. Top Gun: Maverick

It's been 36 years since Lieutenant Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell became the best pilot in Top Gun, and now he's an instructor. The story revolves around Maverick who trains new pilots to join Top Gun and prepares them for dangerous missions.

Just like the prequel film, Tom Cruise is reluctant to use stunts or CGI. For the flight scene, the actors in this film have to become real pilots by flying an F-35 fighter plane.

3. Catch Me If You Can

Not yet 18, but Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) has worked as a doctor, lawyer and co-pilot for a major airline. Frank is a clever con artist and he is a very good person at faking things.

At the age of 17, Frank became a bank robber. This action makes FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) make him one of the main targets. His main mission is to catch Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of Carl.

4. Dunkirk

Dunkirk is a war film by director Christopher Nolan. This epic film focuses on the evacuation of half a million allied troops from the coast in northern Normandy, France during World War II. This film has three different points of view namely land, sea and air.

5. Flight

Commercial airline pilot, Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington), is a drug addict and addicted to alcohol. So far, there have been no problems with his career as a pilot. One day, the plane he was flying crashed.

Inevitably Whip had to make an emergency landing, resulting in the death of six passengers. An investigation was carried out by the aviation authority, which revealed Whip's dependence on drugs and alcohol.

6. Sully

On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger (Tom Hanks) attempts to make an emergency landing on New York's Hudson River after US Airways Flight 1549 crashes into a flock of geese. Miraculously, 155 passengers and crew survived and Sullenberger became a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media.

However, this does not guarantee that Sully and Jeff Skiles (Aaron Eckhart) can just be free from investigation. The famed pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation as a senior pilot.

Now, from the films above, now you know more about what a pilot goes through, right? Starting from the hard training, the great responsibility and the burden they carry is not light. How, are you interested in watching the film above?
